What to wear when you have plantar fasciitis…

New Look
Trying to dress for work wearing tennis shoes…
Casual look
Casual look with tennis shoes too…

Hello everyone,

Today I will share something different but I think it is of interest to a lot of fashionistas out there. About a month ago or so, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and the main recommendation the doctor gave me was to wear running tennis shoes. When he first told me, I was not happy but the thought of dealing with the pain for much longer had me convinced that I would have to change my style.

Figuring out how to dress appropriately for work while wearing running tennis shoes was very difficult, especially when my clothes were never meant for wearing with tennis shoes. However, I have embraced the tennis shoes life and have even gotten a few compliments along the way. Of course I also used this as an excuse to buy new shoes since I did not own any running tennis shoes before.

I have found out that the one piece jumpers and short dresses are the best option with the tennis shoes. Skirts work pretty well too.  I have also found that I am much more self-conscious about my clothing than many other people. I really struggle with the idea of looking professional while wearing tennis shoes. I have been working on it though and I do hope to get more pictures of me posted here in the near future. Since it is summer, a lot of my pictures have been taken on our outings.

You might have also noticed that I have changed my hair style. I absolutely love my new hair and I have received so many compliments on it that makes me feel so good. It is so easy to get ready in the morning too.

Hello everyone,

I know it has been a while, but all I can say is that I have been running around and even though I have had many ideas of what to share, I just haven’t sat down to do it.

So, I thought I would share this picture I took about a month ago. I am wearing a piece Angela gave me in Ghana. This fashion started in South Africa and it has made its way to Ghana. I have to say, I loved this look and I got a lot of compliments on it and somehow this dress gave me some nice curves.

As always, thank you for reading,

Yellow and white…

Hello everyone,

I just had to share one of my favorite outfits this summer. I love these Punjabi style pants and I just recently found this perfect top to wear with it at Marshalls. I love yellow and white so I am always hinting for special pieces on these colors. I realize I was still very pale when I took this picture, I think it would look even better now that I have a tan.

Thank you,

Juliana

Hello everyone,

This was a fun outfit and the best part was that I got the top and pants for free…. Lane Bryant had a promotion that if you opened their card one got $25 to spend in the store. I found these two pieces in the clearance rack and was even able to add a necklace and earrings and all I had to give to the clerk was less than $1. I even felt a sudden excitement because these deals are not easy to come by… I hope you like as much as I did…

Thanks,

Juliana

Styles from Ghana…

It's hot in here!winter Coats

Hello everyone,

I finally got around to getting pictures together of my different outfits I got in Ghana. I love them all and have gotten so many compliments on them all. They are all very comfortable and colorful and they make me so happy. The pants I actually found at a street vendor while the others came from boutiques. The long red one and the blue and yellow with long sleeves are from #RedCotton, which was a beautiful boutique with the most beautiful clothes and many dresses.

I can’t wait to go back to Ghana to get more of these wonderful clothes.

Thank you,

Juliana

Yellow and Navy…

Hello everyone,

Today was a great day because I got a lot of compliments on this outfit so I thought I should share it here. Also, it was a perfect outfit for a very hot day like it was today (upper 90s). The best part of this outfit is that it was not expensive at all. I found the skirt at Burlington and paid less than $15 for it. I have had the shirt for a long time and I am pretty sure I bought it on sale too. Navy is one of those colors that do not go out of style so if you have one in the back of your closet, try pairing it with a yellow piece. The scarf/necklace is from Ghana, this piece was not necessarily cheap but one could replace it with any yellow necklace for the purpose of the outfit, The shoes were a tough decision, but I needed to wear a closed toe shoe and the navy blue one I have does not go with this outfit so I had to think outside the box a bit and this is what I came up with and I have to say, I am very happy with the result. Some high heels sandals would work well here too.

What to pack for Ghana…

IMG_7147fullsizeoutput_8a6Hello everyone,

So I went on another adventure recently and I thought I would share what I packed to help others who might be going to Ghana too.  First of all, I did my research because I wasn’t sure what I would need. Normally I get eaten alive by mosquitoes no matter where I go, so this time I was determined to change that. I read in other blogs that one way to avoid mosquito bites and still stay cool is to wear loose fitting clothes made of cotton and linen. Another thing I found out was that the perfume “Bombshell” from Victoria’s Secret also repels mosquitoes. Peppermint smell is also good to avoid mosquitoes.  A friend also gave me some oil ‘Skin So Soft” (I think that is the name) and this is amazing to keep mosquitoes away. This was the first time I traveled and had absolutely no mosquito bites.

Keep in mind Ghana is very hot and humid so I had to plan accordingly…

Here is what I packed for a 10 day trip to Accra, Ghana:

  • 4 linen pairs of pants (interestingly enough I made 3 of them)
  • 1 cotton pair of pants
  • 3 linen 3/4 sleeve shirts
  • 2 cotton dresses
  • 1 light wait capri pants
  • 2 loose tank top
  • 2 losse t-shirts
  • 3 tank tops to wear under the linen shirts
  • 1 white and black fedora hat
  • 1 pair of jeans for the trip back
  • 1 pair of flat nude color shoes
  • 2 flat sandals
  • light bras with no wires (so that I could fit more of them in my bag)
  • underwear
  • Peppermint shampoo and conditioner
  • Bombshell body lotion and perfume

I was able to pack everything in a carry-on and a backpack. While I was there I shopped for some traditional dresses and even a pair of pants. I was able to fit everything back in my carry-on and that alone was a miracle.  I also got lots of jewelry from there.  In addition to these things, I took my iPad with  videos and books downloaded, hair rubber bands, one silver earring that I wore the whole time and the silver rings that I also wore the whole time. I left my nice jewelry home just like I do when I travel anywhere.  I did pack a few snacks since the domestic flights do not serve food anymore.

I have to say that this was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I got to visit the Ashesi University and I met some wonderful people. The university is in a very peaceful area so I got a lot of rest while visiting one of my best friends.

Well, I hope this is helpful for someone out there…
