Conference Attire…

French Newspaper Jacket

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to apologize for not having posted in a while. But here I am… Last week I got to go to a professional Conference and it was in Atlanta so the weather was warmer than here. I got to wear my dress and my new jacket. I love this jacket because I am currently learning French and the whole thing is imitating a newspaper written in French. It is indeed a special piece that I got at a boutique in Portland, Oregon. This was a bit more expensive than I normally pay for clothes but since it is a unique piece I was willing to pay for it. I did have to special order to get it on my size but here it is.

I did complement it with one of my many Brazilian shoes #Melissa. I love them because they have a sweet smell inside and are perfect for rainy weather so now when I travel I usually take them just in case it rains wherever I go.

Random thoughts…

It is interesting to see how much fashion changes throughout the years as well as how it differs from culture to culture. What might be acceptable in one culture or country is not accepted in another. It is also possible to guess where people are from based on the way they dress because clothing is so cultural. Also, clothing choices that once were not acceptable are now part of the common fashion.

The one debate I have entered in before even on this site is that of the leggings. I used to watch the show What Not to Wear on TLC religiously, and Clinton and Stacey always said leggings are not pants. While I agree with that I also think it is a lost battle. More and more girls and women are wearing leggings with short shirts. I would have to say that part of the problem is when the leggings are see through or thin enough and shows “too much.” Some companies are now making some thicker ones that are also used for exercise. These have the potential to be ok without a long shirt. However, I still believe that there are appropriate places to wear them and work might not be one of them. I have posted before what would be ok and what is not ok to look professional but more and more I see those lines getting more and more blurry. It seems like professional wardrobe looks different for each person and each job place. It sounds like many jobs are very relaxed with their dress codes.

I guess in the end, depending on the culture, just about anything could be acceptable as long as your boss is ok with it. Good thing I am no one’s boss is all I have to say.

New jeans…

Hello everyone,

As many of you know I am always hunting for a bargain but sometimes I am willing to splurge a little bit more if it helps make me look good or at least make me feel better. These jeans are KanCan and I got them at Buckle. I actually hadn’t gone into a Buckle since I had moved to Portland. I have to say it was a very pleasant experience and the girls were super friendly and helpful. They also helped my son find jeans that fit him well. I do like the fact they can order things if they don’t have your size in store. The cool thing about these pants is that they have stretch and they are very comfortable to spend the day.

As far as the coat, this was a bargain I found at Burlington. It is a Calvin Klein jacket and it does pack up very small so it should be a good one to take on trips. It is nice and warm but I have not tried it in the rain yet. It should work but not sure yet.

The stocking cap is from Maurices and you have seen it before in other pictures. I have to say that I absolutely love taking pictures wearing winter clothes. I feel less exposed as far as my size is concerned.

January 2019…

This was a crazy busy month and unfortunately I have not had much time to get pictures taken to update the blog. I will have a little more time from now on which makes me excited. I have started working on some designs to sew for myself. I have the fabric and drawings ready to go, just need to find the right time to sit down and work on it.

Check out my new shirt I got at Maurices a couple of weeks ago. It is a beautiful navy blue shirt and I particularly love the necklace because it is my favorite color after all. The nice thing about this shirt is that it works on its own and it could be worn with light pink pants, mint green pants, khaki pants or even navy blue pants. It is a very versatile shirt.

Now, in terms of my hair, this is the solution I found to cover my thinking hair that shows even more because of the calicos I have on the back. So I found a solution to make me feel less self conscious about it. This outfit got me a lot of compliments which is always nice to hear.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my new February outfits… I have been doing some shopping and I am excited to share what I have put together.

Nude Nails

Believe it or not, I never thought I would get my nails done this color but I thought it was time for a change. I also got to do matte for the first time. I have to say I love my nails and having them this color is not so bad. It will certainly match everything I wear. I have a colleague who normally chooses these kinds of colors and I usually give her a hard time but now I understand. Of course I had to have at least the party nail with some sparkle, it is still me and I need my flare after all. Well, this week I just wanted to stop by to show my new nail color.

A weekend to relax and recharge…

A winter day at the beach.

Hello everyone,
I had a very difficult week at work and needed to get away to relax and recharge. This will be a busy month and I need to be ready for it. So we decided to take an impromptu trip to the coast.
Some of you may know that my favorite colors are the mint green or tiffany blue. As a result, half of my wardrobe is that color nowadays. I love how the colors are so bright on this picture and how my amazing husband was able to capture them. The sky matches my jacket…. amazing…
Being near the ocean and walking on the beach is so relaxing and helps me get centered again. As you can see, this was fairly early in the day and it was still a bit chilly by the water so I had to wear my hat and scarf. As the day progressed it got nicer and nicer to the point we could just wear a long sleeve shirt and feel comfortable. Living an hour away from the beach has been one of the best things ever. I feel so much better after I spend sometime near the water.

Work outfit

Dressed to impress

Hello everyone,
I found this dress at Roz & Ali which used to be Dressbarn. To be very honest I had never been able to find much at this store but as soon as I saw this dress I fell in love with it. Interestingly enough I did not get many compliments on this piece but I felt pretty good wearing it. It is a comfortable dress and I think it can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and jewelry I would wear with it. Also, it is sleeveless so it could go from winter to summer or at least spring. I think the flowers help camouflage the parts of my body I don’t feel very comfortable with. It was perfect for my day at work except that my feet were pretty tired at the end of the day since these are not the most comfortable boots I own.

Dressing for the snow…

Hello everyone,

I have to say that my husband has outdone himself with these pictures. I have also decided I should probably only take pictures of myself in the winter. I love my stocking caps and scarves. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do. It was a fun day in the snow at Mt. Hood! It is not always easy finding hats I can wear because of my allergies but lately I have been able to find some that work and I love them.

A Day at Work

Animal Print for work

Hello everyone,
Since I had to visit a student at his school I had to dress up as usual. I have to say that this jacket is a great find. I wear all black underneath and use the red scarf for the pop of color. It is specially nice to wear the red one at this time of the year since it is Christmas.
I also want to point out how blessed we have been this year… Check out the pile of gifts behind me. I can’t help but feel guilty about it but I have to say that most gifts were made by me. I made stuff for almost everyone on my list this year. There is something specially gratifying about making gifts myself.
Well, I will have some more pictures to post tomorrow and later this week because I am planning a photoshoot in the snow. Stay tuned!
